For the last week or two, we have been learning how to solve addition and subtraction problems by making our own number line. This is such a tricky concept to master and we're so proud of the children for their perseverance! We've been thinking about adding / subtracting ones and even adding / subtracting groups of ten! Keep practising at home! Every week, Year 2 visits the school library to find some new books to enjoy. We have complete free choice so sometimes these books are quite tricky and we might need an adult to help us read them.
We've practised using the Dewey Decimal system to help us find the books we're after. After reading 'Jonah and the Whale' we have experimented with different brush strokes to create a seascape. Some of our seas are stormy and some are calm and gentle.
Louis: "We have been practising using different brush strokes today." Elliot: "We looked at pictures of stormy seas and calm seas. Then used brush strokes to add detail to our painting." Amelia: "We looked the shapes of the waves and we copied them." Henry: "We mixed colours together to make different colours." Max: "It was really fun. My painting looks so good." In 2M we have been learning all about place value. Today we looked at different ways to represent a number! We were challenged to create as many different ways to make a number as possible! Look at what we came up with! In PE this half term we are looking at different types of dance! We have looked at the zumba 'indian moonlight' and discussed why this is very different from dancing we may have seen at parties or on strictly! The children have now begun to choreograph their own dances to Aladdin's 'Arabian Nights!' Today we learnt what a noun is! We then went on a noun hunt around the school to find nouns. We had fun looking for people, places and things! In maths this week we have been learning about the greater than and less than symbols! We have also learnt what = means! To start off our topic and to help us learn we created our own number eating alligators! |
